Do you have a suggestion on a sewing machine, ladies..?

I'm would like to buy a sewing machine for basically hemming straight lines only, as in making some simple curtains and small repairs. Do you use a sewing machine you would recommend that is not overly expensive that will take care of doing basic sewing and mending, nothing fancy. I will not be using it for heavy material like denim jeans. Are machines that are around 100.00 or so so good quality or not? Any suggestions on where to buy or brands, or model numbers I could look up would be appreciated.
